A Celebration of Life...Kupuna Lurline Hīnano (Thomas) Lee was born on January 28, 1933 ua hala oia June 3, 2009.

Mrs. Lurline Hinano Lee was an educator for over 30 years.  She taught English at Leilehua High School for 20 years.  After retirement there, Mrs. Lee, as she was affectionally known, continued teaching Hawaiian Studies as Kupuna at Mililani Waena Elementary School for the Department of Education for another 10 years.  She sang in the church choir at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Wahiawa. Mrs. Lee was Pelekikena for the Hawaiian Civic Club of Wahiawa for 25 years from 1984 - 2009.  She was a Founding and Charter Member of 48 years. She was also a member of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs Kupuna Advisory Council.  We dearly miss her sense of humor, wisdom, knowledge, and her beautiful smile. Mrs. Lee believed in "Education for our Hawaiian People".  HCCW has established the Lurline Hīnano Lee Scholarship Fund in her honor.

The Hawaiian Civic Club of Wahiawa was established by Cardinal Kuhio Thomas Sr. and Mary Kapai Keli`ikipi Thomas, the esteemed parents of Charter Members: Kupuna Roselia Poepoe of Wahiawa (92); the late Pelekikena Lurline Lee of Wahiawa; their sisters, Kupuna Barbara Pua‘a  (87) of Waimanalo, the late Lo
retta Hera of Lana‘i Island; and their brothers the late Cardinal Thomas Jr. and the late Herman "Bully" Thomas.

We, the members of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Wahiawa Nonprofit shall honor the legacy of Mrs. Lurline Hīnano (Thomas) Lee.  With continued aloha, we shall malama ʻāina, our kuleana of Wahiawa and her surrounding communities, wahi pana, and "to guard the kapu of Kukaniloko because we love them for all time..."
