Noho ana i Lihue i ka uka o Halemano
Dwelling there in Lihue, in the uplands of Halemano
Halehale ke aloha i Kapuahuawa
Deep is the love for Kapuahuawa
Ahu wale mai nei o loko ka hale
Comforting those who dwell within the home
Halehale ke aloha i na hoalii
Deep is the love for the chosen few
Halii maila ka uluwehiwehi i ko malu
Through whom blessings of splendor spread
E malu mai hoi oukou
We implore you for your protection and guidance
A wehe ke awa o ke akamai
Let the waters of intelligence flow
A ku ka manao,
 Let it fill minds,
A kani na leo,
 Let voices be heard,
A pa ka naau o loko e
 Let intentions sit well within
He leo no, he noi keia, he kanenae aloha e
A voice, a request, a supplication of love
Ola ka lani ola ka honua
Life to the heavens, life to the earth
Ola ka pae aina o Hawaii
Life across all of Hawaii nei
Mai ka piko o ke poo
From the zenith of the heavens
A ka poli o ka wawae
To the depths of the soil
A laa ma na kihi eha o ke kino
To the sacredness of the four corners of the earth
Amama, ua noa, a lele wale.
The prayer is finished, free from kapu, let it fly.

This pule is presented to the leadership and members of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in January of    2022. It is a prayer of supplication to the kūpuna who dwell within the piko of Oahunui-a-Lailai, asking for guidance, protection, and inspiration as the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs holds is 62nd annual convention.
May the waterways of enlightenment be open to all who attend the convention and may the wisdom of the
kūpuna guide your discussions and decisions so that the lāhui ʻāina and lāhui kānaka may thrive for many generations to come.

**Note: Diacritical markings have been intentionally removed from the composition of the mele to allow
for layers of meaning to exist freely. A general translation of one level of meaning is provided but is
certainly not the end of understanding. - J. Laʻakapu Lenchanko, Mea Pule, Hawaiian Civic Club of Wahiawa

"e kūkaʻawe i nā kapu o Kūkaniloko nō ka mea aloha nō hoʻi kākou iā lākou i nā kau a kau..."
“to guard the kapu of Kūkaniloko because we love them for all time…”
