ʻ Anoʻ ai and Aloha:
 Kupuna Pilahi Paki

PictureKupuna Pilahi Paki (HCCW Archives 1962)
 An excerpt from the...

Hawaiian Civic Club of
Wahiawā Meeting Minutes
Friday, November 9, 1962

Guest speaker:  Kupuna Pilahi Paki

Question:   Is the true Hawaiian greeting ʻanoʻ ai ?

Kupuna Pilahi Paki:   That was the true Hawaiian greeting meaning,  "not one greater than another."

Kupuna Pilahi Paki further defined ALOHA...

ALOHA is something that is there. We can feel it but cannot touch it. ALOHA is a way of life because it takes your heart. The five ways to bring ALOHA out are: your eyes, your spoken words, your hands, your hearing and your breath. Everyone says ALOHA.  Every malahini says ALOHA.  How many of us remember how to say ALOHA from the heart?  Today, ALOHA is taken for granted.  (Hawaiian Civic Club of
Wahiawā  Minutes  11/09/1962)

A     akahai….…....to feel and to think with kindnesses
L     lōkahi……......to stand firmly in unity and in harmony
O   ʻoluʻolu...........to balance your thinking as well as your feelings
H    haʻahaʻa.......to be humble; humility expressed with modesty
A    ahonui…........to persevere; learn to apply patience; to be patient
you learn to stand alone.

The Hawaiian Civic Club of Wahiawa:  Aloha is who we are.  Aloha is the way we live our lives each day. Aloha is as simple as the smile upon your face.

Aloha is the greatest truth of all...

"e kūka ʻ awe i nā kapu o Kūkaniloko nō ka mea aloha nō hoʻ i kākou iā lākou i nā kau a kau..."
“to guard the kapu of Kūkaniloko because we love them for all time…”
